Case Study: Ecosave Energy Savings Project – University of Canberra
University of Canberra awarded with high energy savings achievements
In 2013 Ecosave was contracted to provide an energy savings project in a four-storey Library facility at UC.
The Ecosave team worked in collaboration with UC Estate Management team to ensure that the project ran smoothly with minimal imposition to both students and University staff.
The majority of the project was completed out of hours and during the end of year Semester break when the numbers of both students and staff were at their lowest.
This also meant that Ecosave had a very strict timeline for this large role which included the Christmas and New Year pubic holidays.
Strong communication channels were established between Ecosave and the UC Estate Management to ensure that all affected parties were kept aware of impending works, especially when areas needed to be cordoned off.
The solutions that were implemented in the University of Canberra Library:
- Light fitting refurbishment and/or replacement
- Lighting controls
- Appliance controls
A highlight of this project was that the annual savings actualised were just over $21,400 greater than those proposed in the initial assessment which meant that the payback period on the initial investment dropped from 2.7 to 2.1 years.
Ecosave are supporting UC with energy efficiency projects to become a community aware of its environmental impact and empowered to reduce its footprint
