They offer a full range of services and compete in all telecommunications markets throughout Australia, providing more than 8.6 million Australian fixed line and 10.5 million mobile services, including 8.2 million 3G services.
Telstra has a large portfolio of properties including upwards of 5000 telephone exchanges Australia wide and commercial properties in all states of Australia.

While meeting mandatory compliance requirements was an important component of the decision to improve their energy efficiency a greater focus was attached to delivering real savings that went straight to Telstra’s bottom line and produced tangible, auditable environmental savings.

Since 2006 Ecosave has assisted Telstra in this pursuit. Telstra has concentrated their efforts in NSW and Canberra. Energy savings projects have been completed in 187 exchanges within New South Wales and 10 commercial properties in various states.

The solutions that have been implemented In Telstra buildings include

  • The refurbishment of twin fluorescent light fittings to a single tube, installing a high performance reflector, maintaining the existing light level.
  • Installing daylight sensors in areas to switch off lights at times when natural light levels are adequate .
  • Installing voltage reduction units to save on the energy consumed by fluorescent lights
  • Replacing Dichoric light fittings with energy saving fittings.
  • Installing movement sensors in areas not constantly in use.
  • Installing CO sensors and Variable Speed Drives in Car park extraction systems.
  • Retrofitting existing water fixtures such as taps and toilets to reduce water consumption and eliminating leaks.
