Energy efficiency is an important part of NAB's response to climate change and is a key component of the initiatives they have in place to deliver on their Climate Change Strategy and commitment to being carbon neutral by September 2010.
With the help of Ecosave, National Australia Bank undertook a series of Energy Efficiency Opportunities assessments in 2007-08, as per the requirements of Act.
NAB has systematically assessed energy efficiency opportunities in 40% of their building portfolio from the large commercial offices down to the small retail branches, resulting in energy and water conservation projects being (or in the process of being) implemented by Ecosave across 94 commercial buildings and retail branches.
In the cases where NAB is simply the building tenant, they have worked with the building owners to implement energy and water conservation measures in both their tenancy spaces and across the base building areas.
An excellent example of this is the building the lease at 197 Prospect Highway, Seven Hills, NSW.
After implementation of the solutions we assessed and designed, we were able to measure a 29% reduction in the energy consumption across the tenancy and building. And these savings were achieved with only a 2.4 year payback.
This result was a 25% improvement over the savings we guaranteed in our initial proposal.
The solutions implemented were
- Light fitting refurbishment
- Chiller Controls
- <!--[if !supportLists]-->Modifying Building Management System (BMS) control strategies
- Recommissioning economy cycle
Donation of Native Seedlings: Ecosave donates to Greening Australia, one native seedling for every tonne of CO2 and every 100 kilolitres of water saved, which additionally enhances the environment.
